The West Coast duo’s first album together is bursting with ideas — genre hops, pop hooks, and playful attitude. But does all that energy add up to a great record, or just an exhausting one?

When PARTYOF2 dropped their debut as a duo with AMERIKA’S NEXT TOP PARTY (October 17, 2025, via Def Jam), they promised fusion: West Coast hip hop, hip house, rap rock, alternative R&B, and experimental pop all thrown into a blender. And true to their word, the album is nothing if not colorful. It’s diverse, it’s fun, and it swings for the fences with a wink and a smile.
But here’s the rub: swinging for the fences sometimes means striking out. And on this record, PARTYOF2 — members Jadagrace and SWIM — connect just enough to make the misses frustrating rather than forgettable.
The Good: When It Hits, It Hits
Let’s start with the highlights. “FEEL LOVE” is the undeniable banger — easily the best track on the album, a euphoric, danceable moment that sticks in your head for days. “POSER” delivers sharp, witty energy that cuts through the more meandering moments. The intro, “SURVIVOR’S REMORSE,” hooks you with a chorus that’s genuinely catchy. And the closing track, “HEAVEN ON EARTH,” closes things on a high note with smashing drums and a sense of purpose.
SWIM, in particular, shows flashes of real talent. His verse on “OUT OF BODY” catches a nice pocket and flows effortlessly — proof that he’s a fun, dynamic producer when the stars align. The duo’s playful chemistry works on paper, and when they lean into braggadocious hip-hop or personal storytelling, the results are engaging. There’s also a clever streak of humor throughout, with references to the West Coast music scene that reward attentive listeners.
The production is unusual — and that’s both a blessing and a curse. When it works, it gives the album an underrated, off-kilter charm that stands out in a crowded field.
The Bad: Genre Fusion Without a Net
Unfortunately, for every moment that lands, two more stumble. The biggest issue? The genre-hopping feels haphazard rather than intentional. Tracks like “JUST DANCE 2” (the sequel to a non-existent first hit?) try to blend hip-hop, dance, and rock into a weird hybrid that misses for all the wrong reasons. The hip house elements are generic and basic. The rap rock sections grind the ears. And the occasional R&B moments sound like they’ve been heard a million times before.
The duo’s chemistry is promising but not fully realized. Jada and SWIM don’t yet sound like a cohesive unit — more like two talented friends still figuring out how to share a beat. The song structures are often awkward: abrupt choruses that feel like bridges, verses that end too soon, transitions that confuse rather than surprise.
And then there’s the execution. SWIM’s production can feel flat and over polished, robbing tracks of their intended grit. The rapping is often generic, the delivery weak, and the songwriting unremarkable. “FRIENDLY FIRE” — a track where they diss each other — is conceptually memorable but sonically boring. The duo just doesn’t have enough presence yet to make listeners truly care.
The Ugly: Derivative, Pretentious, and Exhausting
The harshest criticism of AMERIKA’S NEXT TOP PARTY is that it feels like a knockoff of better artists — specifically Tyler, the Creator, whose aesthetic and genre-bending DNA looms large over young acts like PARTYOF2. But Tyler is a true creative; PARTYOF2, by comparison, comes off as “experimentally vague and bland,” coercing listeners into believing there’s depth where there’s mostly simplicity.
Certain tracks are downright cringeworthy. The duo’s delivery may come off as cheesy, and their demeanor feels ostentatious and affected. It seems like they’re aiming for a strong impression with their various genre experiments, yet nothing really resonates. The new Black Eyed Peas? It feels somewhat gimmicky.
Even the catchy moments don’t hold up to repeated listens. This is an album you might enjoy for a spin or two — then never return to. It’s hard to listen to songs like these 20 times in a row.
The Bottom Line
AMERIKA’S NEXT TOP PARTY is not a bad album. It’s an uneven album. And that might be more frustrating. Because you can hear the talent buried underneath — SWIM’s production chops, Jada’s melodic instincts, their genuine humor and chemistry.
Here, it feels like they’re punching beneath their weight. The best cuts are the straightforward hip-hop tracks. The rest is a scatter-shot collection of okay ideas thrown together without enough care. The duo needs to pick a lane — or at least learn how to merge smoothly.
