Fan Expo: Regulators, Mount Up!, Kurt Russell Finally Breaks His Convention Vow & Geek’d Con

The Young Guns Cast Is Riding into Dallas for a Rare Reunion

Thirty-eight years after they first rode onto the big screen, the Regulators are saddling up one more time.

If you grew up quoting Young Guns, debating who had the fastest draw, or cheering as Billy the Kid and his crew outran the law, this September is your chance to relive it all. FAN EXPO Dallas has just announced one of the most complete Young Guns cast reunions ever assembled, and it’s happening Sept. 11–13, 2026, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.

The Lineup: A Who’s Who of ’80s Hollywood

The roster is nothing short of legendary. Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, Lou Diamond Phillips, Dermot Mulroney, and Casey Siemaszko will all be together for one weekend only. That’s six of the seven original Regulators—a reunion that fans have been waiting nearly four decades to see.

Released in 1988, Young Guns wasn’t just another Western. It was a shot of adrenaline that redefined the genre for a new generation. The film took the legend of Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County Regulators and injected it with humor, swagger, and youthful energy that resonated far beyond the typical cowboy movie crowd.

Why This Reunion Matters

“This is exactly the kind of once-in-a-lifetime moment FAN EXPO Dallas was created to deliver,” said Andrew Moyes, Vice President of FAN EXPO HQ. And he’s right. The movie became a box-office success and an enduring cult favorite, spawning a sequel and cementing itself as a defining touchstone of 1980s pop culture.

“People still cheer when they hear, ‘Regulators, mount up,’” Moyes added. “That enthusiasm has never faded. This reunion is about nostalgia, shared memories, and giving fans the chance to celebrate a film that meant so much to them with the people who brought it to life.”

What to Expect

Attendees will have opportunities for autographs, professional photo ops, and special appearances celebrating the legacy of Young Guns and its lasting impact on generations of movie fans. For longtime fans, it’s a chance to relive one of the defining movie experiences of the late 1980s. For younger audiences discovering the film for the first time, it’s a rare opportunity to witness a piece of Hollywood history in person.

After Six Decades, Hollywood Legend Kurt Russell Finally Breaks His Convention Vow – Debuts Live in Chicago This Weekend

CHICAGO – The eyepatch is on. The cigar is lit. And for the first time in more than sixty years, Kurt Russell is stepping out from behind the silver screen to meet the people who made him a legend – face to face.

As FAN EXPO Chicago opens its doors this weekend (August 14–16, 2026), the 75‑year‑old actor is making history by appearing at his very first fan convention. No autograph lines, no photo ops, no convention panels – that had been the rule for Russell throughout a career that began in the 1960s. Until now.

Russell, whose filmography reads like a masterclass in cult cinema, is signing autographs, posing for pictures, and taking the stage for a live Q&A session at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. The appearance marks an astonishing about‑face for an actor who has steadfastly avoided the convention circuit despite decades of fan pleas.

“I’m looking forward to making my first convention appearance at FAN EXPO Chicago,” Russell said in a statement released earlier this year. “After all these years, it’ll be a new experience for me, and I’m excited to meet the fans who have supported my work and to see what makes these events very special for so many.”

For generations of moviegoers, Russell is the face of some of the most indelible action heroes ever committed to film. He brought gritty, unshakable swagger to the role of Snake Plissken in John Carpenter’s Escape from New York; he portrayed the paranoid and resilient R.J. MacReady in the horror classic The Thing; he played the wise‑cracking trucker Jack Burton in Big Trouble in Little China; and he delivered a career‑defining turn as Wyatt Earp in the Western epic Tombstone. More recently, he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ego the Living Planet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Despite that vast body of work and a devoted fan base that crosses multiple generations, Russell had never before agreed to a convention appearance – making his Chicago debut one of the most buzzed‑about guest announcements in the history of fan events.

Andrew Moyes, Vice President of FAN EXPO HQ, described the booking as a labor of love.

“Kurt Russell is a true icon, and we’re delighted that he chose FAN EXPO for this exciting debut and singular appearance,” Moyes said. “Bringing him to FAN EXPO Chicago for a once‑in‑a‑lifetime experience is something we have worked incredibly hard to make happen, and we cannot wait for our fans to experience this.”

Russell is not alone on the guest roster. This year’s FAN EXPO Chicago – one of the oldest and largest pop‑culture conventions in North America – has assembled a lineup that rivals any in recent memory. Attendees can also catch a 25th Anniversary reunion of the four Hobbits from The Lord of the Rings trilogy: Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd. Action fans will find Lethal Weapon stars Mel Gibson and Danny Glover together in the same hall. Star Trek legend William Shatner is on hand, as is Karl Urban alongside fellow cast members from the hit series The Boys.

Additional guests and programming are being announced throughout the weekend.

For fans who grew up quoting “Let’s go, pal” or “You’re the Duke of New York, you’re A‑Number One,” the wait is finally over. Russell is here, in person, for the first time – and he’s ready to meet the faithful.

FAN EXPO Chicago continues through Sunday, August 16. Show hours: Saturday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tickets and information are available at FANEXPOChicago.com.

Geek’d Con Unleashes Pop Culture Frenzy in Shreveport – Actors in Tears, Fans in Costume, Community in Full Force

SHREVEPORT, La. – The convention center is buzzing. Costumed heroes and villains roam the aisles. Actors are signing autographs, sharing emotional confessions, and soaking in the love from fans who grew up watching them on screen.

Geek’d Con 2026 is officially underway at the Shreveport Convention Center, and this weekend, it’s more than just a gathering of comic book enthusiasts and cosplayers – it’s a lifeline for those seeking belonging.

“I think it’s just a great spot for people who don’t feel like there’s a lot of community – to get together and finally interact with each other, to feel safe and feel good,” said attendee Zanaya Harris, capturing the spirit of the three‑day event that opened Friday and runs through Sunday.

For Marvin Jones, who played the villain Tombstone in Spider‑Man: Brand New Day, the convention is a front‑row seat to fan creativity.

“You know, really with the costumes and cosplay – seeing how people got creative, how they emulated a certain character they love – I get a joy out of it,” Jones said.

But when asked about landing the iconic role, the actor dropped his guard.

“Honestly, it was kind of emotional for me. I cried. Yea, I cried,” Jones admitted, offering a rare glimpse behind the makeup and prosthetics of his comic‑book character.

Fan Interactions That Make It All Worthwhile

Lochlyn Munro, best known for his comedic turn in the hit film White Chicks, echoed the sentiment that the fans are the real fuel for his career.

“It’s fun to have those interactions with your fan base,” Munro said. “They are kind of the whole reason I get to do that for a living.”

The convention floor was packed with attendees eager to meet actors from their childhood favorites. One fan, who grew up watching White Chicks, Little Man, and horror classics featuring Jason and Freddy Krueger, said the experience was a chance to relive those memories in person.

“I grew up watching White Chicks, Little Man, Jason and Freddy’s – so I like experiencing new things,” the attendee said.

Geek’d Con continues its 2026 run today, with doors opening at 10 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m. The convention wraps up on Sunday, offering one final day for fans to celebrate their favorite pop‑culture universes, discover new artists, and share their passion with a community that welcomes all.

From Spider‑Man villains to comedy icons, from elaborate armor to hand‑stitched capes – Shreveport is the place to be this weekend for anyone who has ever dreamed of stepping into another world.

And for the actors who brought those worlds to life? It’s a chance to say thank you – sometimes with tears in their eyes.

Geek’d Con continues Saturday, August 15, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, August 16, at the Shreveport Convention Center. For tickets and schedules, visit the official Geek’d Con website.
