‘CLIKA’ : Jimmy Humilde’s Raw Feature Exposes Viral Fame’s DARK UNDERBELLY!

The producer who helped shape the modern sound of regional Mexican music is now turning to film. Jimmy Humilde, the founder of Rancho Humilde and a trailblazing figure in the Latin music industry, makes his producing debut with “CLIKA,” a drama about an aspiring singer whose sudden viral success comes with unexpected dangers.

The film, released January 23, 2026, follows Chito, a young musician from a small town determined to make it big. Played by JayDee, a rising artist in his own right, Chito’s life changes overnight when a clip of him performing one of his original songs goes viral. He seizes the opportunity, pushing to carve out a place for himself in the new wave of Mexican-American music. But as his ambition grows, he finds himself entangled in a game far more dangerous than he anticipated.

According to production notes, the story explores themes of ambition, tradition, and self-discovery, as Chito is forced to confront the choices he has made in his relentless pursuit of a dream.

“CLIKA” marks the first feature from Humilde’s production company. The film is directed by Michael Greene, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Sean McBride and contributed to the story alongside McBride, Ski-Ter Jones, and Humilde.

The producing team includes Humilde, McBride, Jones, Dave “Foots” Footman, and Lalo the Giant. Executive producers are JayDee, Jose Becerra, and Roque Venegas.

From the Waves, a Nightmare: Mexican Horror ‘Sacrificios’ Makes Latin American Debut at Fantaspoa

The psychological thriller, which won the Audience Award at the 2025 Austin Film Festival, follows a grieving father who gets his son back from the sea — at a price that may be worse than death.

MEXICO CITY – What would you sacrifice to bring back someone you love? That question, pushed to its most terrifying extreme, drives Sacrificios, a Mexican psychological horror thriller that will have its Latin American premiere at Brazil’s Fantaspoa International Film Festival, the largest genre festival in the region.

The film, directed by Mauricio Chernovetzky and co-written with Alexander Ioshpe, has already made waves. It premiered at the 2025 Austin Film Festival, where it took home the Audience Award in the Dark Matters category. Now it heads to the 22nd edition of Fantaspoa, known for its passionate crowds and appetite for bold, boundary‑pushing horror.

A Father’s Descent

Sacrificios follows Juan, a man shattered by the accidental death of his young son. Overwhelmed by grief and guilt, he flees to the open sea, seeking escape. But instead of oblivion, he finds something far stranger: a supernatural force that returns his child to him from the waves. The miracle, however, comes with a brutal condition: to keep the boy alive, Juan must continually offer his own blood.

The film runs 92 minutes and blends psychological horror with meditations on faith, redemption, and obsession. It stars Jorge A. Jimenez (Narcos, The Black Demon), Frida Astrid, Noé Hernández (Bardo, Bel Canto), Siddhartha Tonalli, and Costanza Andrade.

Personal Roots

For the filmmakers, the story is deeply personal. Chernovetzky said the film was inspired by and dedicated to their own fathers.

“As we became increasingly aware of all the sacrifices they’ve made for us, along with the emotional toll it took on them — the grief, the silence, the weight they carried alone — we asked ourselves: Is there a limit to how much a father would be willing to sacrifice?” he said in a statement. “This film is a response to that question.”

Co-writer Ioshpe added that watching the film with live audiences has been unexpectedly moving. “People stood in the wings waiting to ask questions, sharing their own stories of grief and loss,” he said. He cited influences like Jacob’s Ladder and The Witch — films that “become personal to others because they are personal to us.”

Behind the Scenes

Jason Carmer, a Grammy‑winning audio engineer and composer; Cinematography is by Grzegorz Bartoszewicz, with production design by Adelle Achar. Producers include Ernesto Martínez Arévalo, Jessica Villegas Lattuada, Chernovetzky, and Ioshpe, with Jairo Sifuentes as co‑producer and Zig Kellner as executive producer.

Fantaspoa, held annually in Porto Alegre, Brazil, is a major showcase for horror, fantasy, and science fiction from around the world. The festival’s audience is known for its enthusiasm and critical eye, making it a fitting stage for a film that blurs the line between miracle and madness.

Sacrificios will screen at Fantaspoa during the festival’s 2026 edition.
